Kia ora | Hello
We look forward to hosting you in our wonderful city. We start by introducing the meaning behind the name Ōtautahi and follow the footsteps of our ancestors, sharing many traditional Māori and Settlers stories and ways of life. We also introduce our guiding principle of manaakitanga including our whakatauki (proverb) ‘Kia atawhai ki te iwi’, Care for your people. Our guides also teach you a traditional māori greeting. We walk past traditional mahinga kai (food gathering) and pā (māori village) sites and bring to life the stories of the past and present as how they have been woven into our emerging city. We wander the laneways enjoying morning tea and some special tastings from our local artisan producers.
Mā te wa | Until then
